Austin Nichols recently discussed his experience filming a kiss with co-star Mary-Kate Olsen in the 2001 movie “Holiday in the Sun.” During an interview on a podcast, he shared his thoughts on the age difference and why that particular scene didn’t sit right with him.

As a die-hard fan, I’m sharing that Austin Nichols recently opened up about one of his earliest roles – the 2001 film “Holiday in the Sun”. He reminisced about a kiss scene with Mary-Kate Olsen, revealing how uneasy it made him feel back then. At that time, Austin was approximately 18 or 19 years old, while Mary-Kate was only 15. The age gap definitely added to his discomfort on set.
In an interview on the Drama Queens podcast, Nichols admitted he felt uneasy right from the start. He clarified, “I was too old for the role, and it just didn’t feel right. Plus, I looked quite young, so watching the movie, people probably wouldn’t notice.” The actor further explained, “It might not be apparent that there’s a significant age gap, but in my mind, it seemed like she was 15, which felt strange to me.
According to Nichols, he voiced his worries about the scene to the producers and Mary-Kate’s father (who happened to be on set during filming). He shared that everyone reassured him it would be suitable and not a major issue. The actor then mentioned, “No one appeared worried, but I was quite anxious. However, everything worked out okay in the end. It ended up being very family-friendly.
Initially harboring reservations, Nichols admitted that the film continues to delight its audience even after many years have passed. A role that he initially dismissed as frivolous, he now acknowledges has showered him with affection and appreciation countless times over.
In this movie, Nichols took on the role of Griffen Grayson, a youthful character who strikes up friendships with the twin sisters portrayed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, during their winter getaway in the Bahamas. The production also included a young Megan Fox.
