On June 3, 2025, DC will publish the prequel novel “Superman: Welcome to Metropolis” in connection with their 2025 Superman film, distributed by Penguin Random House.
Penguin Random House plans to publish a 144-page children’s novel that serves as a prequel to James Gunn’s movie. Suitable for kids between 6 and 9 years old, this book retails at $7.99 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon now.
As per the official summary, the novel chronicles Clark Kent’s transition into life in Metropolis, his new job at the Daily Planet, and his struggle to balance his dual identity as Superman. The narrative primarily focuses on a perilous enigma connected to Lex Luthor, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult in the movie. The book also features an eight-page full-color insert showcasing character profiles of the film’s key figures.
The makers at DC Studios have made it clear that the upcoming Superman film won’t retell his origin, instead focusing on a storyline that links to Clark Kent’s early years in Metropolis. This means we’ll delve into some aspects of his past, and it will be the first standalone Superman movie since Man of Steel (2013). It also signifies the start of the new DCU series following Creature Commandos.
In this movie, David Corenswet takes on the role of Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan portrays Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult steps into Lex Luthor’s shoes. The ensemble cast also features Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, among others.
