Over the past two decades, the gripping psychological thriller “Hard Candy” has left an indelible mark on cinema. Featuring Patrick Wilson and Elliot Page in pivotal roles, this intense movie directed by David Slade gained a devoted following and achieved cult status. Reflecting on it now, Wilson takes great pride in the film’s final product.
During the Covid period, people were often participating in script read-throughs over platforms like Zoom, similar to rehearsals for movies. We were also asked to take part in one, but it didn’t materialize. This is something I recall vividly. It’s not that I’ve closely examined any frame of that movie or given it much thought beyond fans occasionally expressing their admiration, such as, ‘I adore that film.’ However, whenever someone tells me they enjoy a particular movie, my immediate response has always been to interpret this as saying quite a lot about them.
Indeed, we filmed the movie in approximately 18-19 days, which was quite a challenge, but I’m still incredibly proud of the final product. I believe the movie remains relevant even considering today’s technological advancements. In fact, many films from that era tend to fade away with time, but this one doesn’t. I’m pleased with our performances, and yes, I adore that movie. It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years – that’s quite astonishing!
Under the banner of Lionsgate, the movie Hard Candy was brought to life by producers Rosanne Korenberg and Paul Allen. The director, Slade, guided this suspenseful tale based on a screenplay penned by Brian Nelson. Notably, Sandra Oh and Jennifer Holmes are part of the film’s talented cast.
14-year-old Hayley, who’s mature beyond her years, finds herself at a coffee shop meeting Jeff, a 30-something photographer she met online. What starts as a casual meeting unexpectedly evolves into mixing drinks at Jeff’s place and an impromptu photo session where Hayley disrobes. However, the evening takes a dramatic twist when Hayley, who isn’t as naive as she appears, decides to dig deep into Jeff’s past in search of potentially scandalous secrets. This synopsis depicts a night that initially seems to be going well for Jeff, but things take an unexpected turn.
