Movie Review: Drop

The new movie “Drop” succeeds in creating a different kind of story, definitely never seen before.

The film opens with a past event where Violet, portrayed by Meghann Fahy, is on the floor, moments away from being shot by her former spouse in front of their young son. It’s later revealed that Violet’s ex-husband, who was insane, has passed away. Three years have gone by, and Violet is now prepared to venture into dating once more. Her initial date is a blind one at a restaurant high above downtown Chicago. With her sister looking after their son, Violet goes to the restaurant and encounters Henry, played by Brandon Sklenar, her blind date for the evening.

In DROP, Violet, a widowed mother of a young boy named Toby, embarks on her first date in years at the elegant Palate restaurant. Anxiously sipping wine at the bar while waiting for Henry, a professional photographer, she receives disturbing messages on her phone from an unknown source. Upon answering, she learns that a masked intruder has invaded her home, threatening Toby and her sister Jen. Unable to reveal this dangerous situation to anyone, Violet is forced to comply with the intruder’s demands, such as destroying Henry’s camera SD card and later poisoning his drink. However, Violet refuses to give up without a fight and devises her own strategies to save herself and her loved ones.
