Vincent D’Onofrio knows who he wants to be cast as in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but admire Vincent D’Onofrio for his remarkable portrayal of Wilson Fisk, better known as Kingpin, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again.” Prior to this, he brilliantly brought the character to life in all three seasons of the Netflix’s “Daredevil” series. Interestingly enough, Kingpin has also made appearances in “Hawkeye” and “Echo,” further cementing D’Onofrio’s mastery of the role.
In the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Vincent D’Onofrio will return as Wilson Fisk. However, he is also willing to explore opportunities within the DC Universe as well.
Who does Vincent D’Onofrio want to play in the DCU?
When asked about playing a character other than Wilson Fisk on X, D’Onofrio responded by mentioning Swamp Thing.
Hailing from the creative minds of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, Swamp Thing is a character within the DC Comics universe, initially debuted in House of Secrets #92, back in 1971. Over time, this swampland dweller has headlined various standalone tales such as Alan Moore’s renowned 80’s series, and frequently collaborates with other supernatural Justice League Dark team members.
Back in 1982, I found myself immersed in the world of Swamp Thing, with Ray Wise and Dick Durock bringing the swampy creature to life on the big screen. A couple of years later, in 1989, I was thrilled to return to the swamp for The Return of Swamp Thing, where it was once again Durock under the muck, while Wise made a cameo through archive footage. Fast forward to 2019, and I got to enjoy a new TV series adaptation, this time starring Andy Bean and Derek Mears as my favorite green hero.
Work on a fresh Swamp Thing movie is underway, with the project slated to unfold within the DC Universe. The screenwriter and director for this film will be James Mangold, best known for A Complete Unknown. As of now, no casting decisions have been made public. At present, there’s no confirmed release date for the movie.
Beginning in July, the DC Universe will ramp up with Gunn’s Superman at the helm. Following closely behind in June 2026 is the second DC Universe film titled “Supergirl: Lady of Tomorrow.”
Or, more informally:
Starting next July, we’ve got Gunn’s take on Superman leading the charge for the DCU. Next up, in June 2026, it’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” as the second movie in the series.
