For the first time in 10 years, Elder Scrolls Online is adding Subclassing that’ll let you kit out your build with skill lines from other classes

For the very first time in a decade since its debut, Elder Scrolls Online is about to introduce a feature that allows players to combine abilities from diverse character classes.

During today’s ESO Direct presentation, game director Rich Lambert unveiled a fresh new feature called Subclassing for the MMO, set to release in June alongside Part 1 of the Seasons of the Worm Cult update. While specifics are scarce at present, Zenimax Online has confirmed that once players reach level 50, they’ll gain access to Subclassing, with all their skills and progression available across their account.

Carrie Day, a designer at ESO (Elder Scrolls Online), explained that the new feature called Subclassing will provide approximately 3,000 distinct combinations of skill lines for players, implying that regardless of the character class you’ve chosen, you can customize your build with skill lines from any other class.

During today’s ESO Direct, Zenimax Online revealed more about what they have in store for us, such as the new tropical zone called Solstice, a continuation of the base game storyline for the first season, a massive server-wide event named The Writhing Wall (the game’s first ever), and a helpful tool to organize all the game’s features aimed at welcoming back old players. If you missed the stream and are looking for an overview of the main highlights, I recommend checking out my comprehensive writeup on ESO in 2025 that covers everything happening in this long-running MMO.
