The opening weekend box office projections for Thunderbolts* have been revealed.
In a few short months, the much-anticipated Marvel Studios film, “Thunderbolts,” will make its way to U.S. cinemas in May. Guided by director Jake Schreier, this exciting addition to the MCU features Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes alongside other talented stars.
What are the opening weekend box office projections for Thunderbolts*?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming movie “Thunderbolts” is projected to debut within the $63 million to $77 million range during its opening weekend in the U.S. box office, aiming for a specific figure of around $70 million.
According to Disney insiders, there’s a significant potential for growth due to the unique ensemble of unconventional heroes and villains in this film, as it marks their debut on the big screen. At present, advance ticket sales have been moving at a moderate pace. However, The Hollywood Reporter reports that the studio has received positive feedback from audiences who’ve already seen previews, along with theater owners who were shown footage of Thunderbolts at CinemaCon last week.
Compared to Marvel films, the initial box office earnings of $70 million are on the smaller side. For instance, Captain America: Brave New World debuted with $88.5 million, but it’s worth noting that its release coincided with President’s Day weekend, which contributed to an additional $100 million in revenue over four full days.
The ensemble of Thunderbolts also features Wyatt Russell portraying John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko taking on the role of Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman stepping into the part of Bob/Sentry, Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in their respective roles.
Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. The storyline reveals that they are drawn into a deadly trap by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. As disenchanted outcasts, they are compelled to embark on a perilous journey that will push them to confront the deepest shadows of their pasts. Will this fractious team self-destruct or find redemption and coalesce into something greater before it’s too late?
Thunderbolts* will be released in United States theaters on May 2, 2025.
