How to solve the Parlor Room three-box puzzle in Blue Prince

Upon stepping into the Parlor Room, you’ll encounter three distinctly colored boxes: one blue, one white, and one black. Each box will have hints scribbled on their tops, but for now, disregard those. Instead, focus on the logic of the room itself. Should you inspect the table, you’ll uncover the guidelines that control this puzzle.

  • There will always be at least one box that displays only true statements.
  • There will always be at least one box that displays only false statements.
  • Only one box has a prize within, and the other two are always empty.

Based on these hints, I’ve managed to deduce which box is honest and which one is deceitful, shedding light on their respective meanings. Here’s how it played out in my gaming experience:

  • The blue box said, “All three boxes contain gems.”  This is a lie because we know that only a single box can ever contain a prize.
  • The white box said, “The other two boxes contain gems.” This is also a lie, for the same reason. Only one box has a prize.
  • The black box said, “This box contains gems.” We know that there is at least one box that tells the truth, and the other two have already told lies. As such, this box must be the truth.

Locate a winding key on a table nearby; use it to unlock the box. Once you’ve got the jewels, proceed to the next room and its riddle. You’ll revisit this spot later, and things will be different, making the puzzle more challenging. Remember to think logically about the rules each time. At least one box is a lie, at least one box speaks the truth, but only one box actually holds the jewels; however, there’s no promise that it will be the honest one.
