Broadcasting network Sky has given the go-ahead to a UK version of the late-night variety show “Saturday Night Live,” which originally premiered in the U.S. on NBC back in October 1975. With over half a century on television, this comedy series has earned its place among TV’s most legendary shows.
Sky confirms Saturday Night Live remake for UK with release date window
As per a Deadline report, it’s official that Sky is planning a UK version of Saturday Night Live (SNL), with a tentative release window announced for the show.
2026 marks the debut of Saturday Night Live UK on TV screens nationwide in the United Kingdom. This program will be broadcast on Sky Max, a British subscription-based television network. At this time, specifics regarding the actors and hosts for the show remain confidential.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming British rendition of Saturday Night Live (SNL) is set to continue the global tradition started by the original in countries like Italy, Germany, South Korea, and China. The man behind SNL’s creation, Lorne Michaels himself, will take on an executive producer role for this UK adaptation. His production house, Broadway Video, is joining forces with Universal Television Alternative Studio (UTAS) UK to make it happen. Just like the US version, the UK SNL will maintain its live sketch comedy format, promising a unique blend of humor and entertainment tailored specifically for British audiences.
Excitedly anticipating the arrival of SNL UK next year, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe as I ponder over the legendary status that Saturday Night Live has held for more than five decades. This iconic TV show, under the brilliant comedic direction of Lorne Michaels, has always been at the forefront of our cultural dialogue, mirroring and shaping global conversations in a way that resonates with us all.
She expressed her eagerness to introduce the remake in the UK, noting, “For decades, this program has unearthed and fostered numerous comedy and musical talents. We’re ecstatic about collaborating with Lorne and the SNL team to debut a fully British adaptation of the show for UK viewers next year, live from London every Saturday night.
