This Is What Happens When You Scan The QR Code Hidden In A Black Mirror Season 7 Poster

In one of the promotional posters for Season 7 of “Black Mirror”, they’ve subtly concealed a QR code. Scanning it could potentially uncover a fresh enigma about an upcoming project!

A Hidden Message

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement as Black Mirror season 7 is just around the corner and Netflix is already hyping it up! In one of the promotional posters for an upcoming episode titled “Plaything”, eagle-eyed fans have spotted a hidden QR code. Can’t wait to scan it and see where it leads!

Having difficulty locating the QR code? Take a closer look beneath the Netflix emblem. If your phone’s camera is having issues reading the code, as mine does, don’t fret! A kind user named u/LoricGarde in the Black Mirror subreddit has helpfully traced the code to make scanning easier:

What Happens Upon Scanning?

If you go ahead and scan the given code, it will lead you directly to an “app store” where you can find an app named “TCK96”. At the moment, there isn’t much you can do with this app as its official launch date is scheduled for April 12, which happens to be two days after the premiere of season 7.

The app description is pretty long, but here is a relevant excerpt:

Recovered from a recently rediscovered internal backup disc leaked in the 2000s. Seems this was a higher up’s own personal ‘high pri’ backup disc? Cancellation memos etc. included though redacted. Must have been juicy if you redact documentation on your own backup?? Need to get the emulator/software stable before all features can be listed. Shocking they didn’t release it though, extremely advanced AI for its era. – TCK96 app description

And further:

I have an old VHS of the TV doc and it’s degraded to the point I could only pull a few clips. From the interview, it seems pretty revealing?? Pls post clips on reddit if you have any. I have an alert set up. Pre-order to be the first to see this piece of British digital history! – TCK96 app description

The app allows you to explore software that seems reminiscent of 1996 – although it’s probably fictional for the show, it gives the impression that hidden, vintage information is about to unveil. The description carries the signature “GR0NTH” – could this be a character’s name featured in the episode?

What Is TCK96?

It’s unclear what TCK96 actually represents, as Black Mirror hasn’t provided any explanation for it. However, a Reddit user named u/Opening_Education718 suggested that it might be referring to “Tucker Industries”, a fictional company mentioned in the episodes San Junipero and Archangel.

Based on what the app description says about company documents, this theory could be heading in the right direction! Though each episode presents a unique narrative with new characters, there are recurring hints to past episodes. This suggests that possibly, some Black Mirror tales share the same universe.

An Unexpected Return

Discussing stories set in the same universe, “Plaything” could potentially be one of them: It features Will Poulter, who is expected to return as Colin Ritman from the interactive movie “Bandersnatch,” based on information found on the episode’s IMDb page.

Given that the story of “Bandersnatch” centers around video game developers, a title like “Plaything” would align thematically. Although the main character Stefan isn’t explicitly mentioned in this new title, it could potentially be a different narrative altogether. However, by introducing at least one character who links the two stories, we can confirm that they exist within the same universe.

For the first time, “USS Callister: Into Infinity” and “Black Mirror” could share a continuous narrative, as all previous connections have been only through symbolic hints or shared character names.

don’t freak out
