Superman’s Beck Bennett Talks Working With James Gunn, Reprising Role in Future

Beck Bennett has opened up about what fans can expect from his DCU character in Superman.

In upcoming July releases at U.S. theaters, Bennett can be seen portraying Steve Lombard in the Superman film, produced by James Gunn. Alongside Bennett, David Corenswet takes on the roles of Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane, among other talented cast members.

What did Beck Bennett say about starring in Superman?

During a conversation with Brandon Schreur from the ComingSoon Editor, Bennett shared insights on what DC enthusiasts should anticipate from Steve’s portrayal of Superman.

If you’re familiar with him from online articles or comic books, you might know that he often clashes with Clark Kent at The Daily Planet. However, they still work together as sports writers there. He’s known for being a bit of a challenge to everyone because he lacks a filter and has strong opinions. One of the creators or early writers of Superman comics described him as a ‘recurring character.’ This means that you can count on him to provide a positive reaction, an amusing response, or a laugh whenever he appears. His defining trait is that when you see him, you know exactly what to expect – confident, over-the-top behavior that usually leads to him making a fool of himself and feeling embarrassed. It’s enjoyable to play such a self-assured character who always ends up getting his comeuppance.

When asked about the possibility of Steve appearing in future DCU projects or reprising his role, Bennett expressed his eagerness, saying, “Absolutely, I’d be thrilled to play him again. Plus, collaborating with the creative team and cast was a blast. Working alongside Mikaela Hoover, Christopher McDonald, Skyler Gisondo, Rachel Brosnahan, and David Corenswet was an enjoyable experience. We all share a fondness for this project, so I hope there’s more to come, but only time will tell. Superman and Metropolis are significant parts of the DC Universe, so perhaps I’ll get another chance.
