Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV Show Eyes Curse of Chucky Actress in Lead Role

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV show is on the verge of casting its lead.

Over the past week, an inside source named Daniel Richtman claimed that Milly Shapiro from Hereditary was being considered for the role of Carrie White in Flanagan’s upcoming series. But it seems like the scenario has shifted, as a fresh actress is now reportedly favored to take on the lead role for the television program.

Who will lead Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV show?

According to reports, Summer H. Howell is close to securing a role in the upcoming TV adaptation of Carrie. Talks regarding her involvement in the series are still underway.

Fiona Howell has worked on horror series before, starring in two movies from the Child’s Play franchise: “Curse of Chucky” (2013) and “Cult of Chucky” (2017). However, she might be most recognized for her performances in “Hunter Hunter” and “Clouds”, two films that were released in 2020.

Recently, Howell has been associated with projects such as Time Leap, Soul’s Essence, Playtime and Capacity, and The Kidnapping of Elizabeth Thomas: Her True Story.

According to a Variety report by Howell, it was initially mentioned in October that Flanagan would adapt Carrie for TV through Amazon MGM Studios. However, no official announcement regarding this project has been made yet. But, as per Howell’s report, an official series announcement is expected to be made soon.

The storyline for this series is a fresh, relevant take on Carrie White’s tale. Previously isolated due to her overbearing mother, Carrie now grapples with life in high school following her father’s unexpected demise. She encounters the harsh realities of public education, faces a damaging bullying incident that rocks her community, and discovers she possesses enigmatic psychokinetic abilities.

Flanagan is responsible for writing, overseeing production, directing, and managing the series called Carrie. His partner at Intrepid Pictures, Trevor Macy, will also play a role as an executive producer.

Carrie, the movie, is a screen adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel, published in 1974. Two years after that, Brian De Palma took up the task of directing this adaptation, with Sissy Spacek playing Carrie and Piper Laurie portraying her mother, Margaret White. Notable subsequent adaptations include The Rage: Carrie 2 from 1999, a TV movie made by NBC in 2002, and a remake released in 2013.
