2025’s EVO Japan registration is now complete, with Tokyo Big Sight International Exhibition Center anticipating a huge influx of gamers in May. It appears this event will set another participation record, as roughly 8,648 players have registered to compete in the upcoming tournaments. Approximately 6,530 of these participants are expected to engage in Street Fighter 6 battles.
For the upcoming EVO Japan 2025 event, the registration deadline passed this week, revealing some preliminary statistics about the total number of participants. On its Start.gg platform, a total of 8,648 players are currently registered for the event, though this figure may fluctuate due to players dropping out or registering for multiple tournaments. This number is significantly higher than the 6,797 entrants recorded for EVO Japan 2024. Notably, approximately 6,536 registrants seem to be signed up for Street Fighter 6, as reported by FGC Liquidpedia editor and reviewer incross, a report that was not disputed by EVO lead Rick “TheHadou” Thiher.
It’s a beautiful thing.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the global expansion of EVO. The sheer number of participants in EVO Japan each year is testament to this growth. For instance, the Street Fighter 6 tournament held there was the second largest official Street Fighter 6 tournament to date, trailing only behind EVO 2023 where Street Fighter 6 made its debut and attracted a whopping 7,083 competitors. This proves that EVO’s reach isn’t limited to the US; it’s thriving in international events as well. With upcoming events planned for France and Singapore, I can feel the anticipation building, knowing that the excitement will only grow along with EVO.
With EVO Japan 2025 showing promising figures, this upcoming weekend promises a thrilling battle of skill in the fighting game arena in Tokyo. Keep an eye on the developments as they unfold; we’ll keep you updated with further news right here on Shacknews’ EVO topic.
