Will Forte & Val Kilmer Almost Did Reality Show Together After MacGruber

In a recent disclosure, comedian Will Forte shared one of his greatest disappointments about collaborating with the late Val Kilmer, whom he became very close to after working together in the 2010 film MacGruber.

Why didn’t a Will Forte and Val Kilmer reality show happen?

In a heartfelt piece for Vulture, Forte shared an unexpected detail about his friendship with Kilmer – they once lived together for a span of three months during their collaboration on MacGruber. An evening stands out distinctly when Kilmer returned home to find Forte engrossed in CBS’s reality series The Amazing Race. Remarkably, it was Forte who managed to get Val onto the show.

Originally, Forte expressed, “I used to enjoy The Amazing Race.” Later, when I was tuned in to this show, he returned home and commented dismissively, ‘What are you wasting your time on that trash? It’s just going to corrupt your mind.’ I retorted, ‘It’s actually quite interesting. You should give it a chance before criticizing it.’ So he agreed and began watching, eventually becoming quite engrossed in the series.

After joining the series, Kilmer expressed a strong desire for him and Forte to appear together on the show. However, their managers were not as enthusiastic about this idea, which Forte considers one of the major disappointments in his entire career.

At some stage, he expressed, “‘Will, you and I should participate in The Amazing Race. We have to. Let’s do it.’ To which I eagerly agreed.” We became quite enthusiastic about it, then phoned our representatives who responded with disbelief, saying something like, ‘That’s impossible for you two to take part.’ This might still be the biggest career regret – not joining The Amazing Race with Val. I believe we would have been eliminated early, but it would have been an unforgettable adventure of a lifetime.
