Prince was a musician who frequently collaborated with many talented artists. While he might have preferred a specific sound for his records, his extensive experience in music composition, production, and performance allowed him to make such decisions. Indeed, he was an exceptional composer, producer, and vocalist.
One artist who collaborated with Prince was Chaka Khan. In 1984, she made “I Feel for You,” a song originally released by Prince in 1979, her own hit single. Later on, around the late 1990s, both Prince and Khan teamed up with Larry Graham from Sly and the Family Stone to create some music together as well.
Back in the day, I, as a gaming enthusiast of music, found myself immersed in the vibrant world of Graham Central Station, led by none other than Graham himself. Remarkably, Prince took on the task of crafting their record, aptly titled GCS 2000. Coincidentally, on the exact same day, a different album called Come 2 My House was dropped by Khan. This album had Prince credited as a songwriter, performer, and producer – clearly, he was a man of many talents and projects!
Chaka Khan implies unheard Prince music will be arriving soon
As per a recent interview with The Guardian, it appears that Khan and Prince had composed several unheard songs in the past. However, this situation is set to alter as they are preparing to release a CD showcasing these tunes, following the resolution of some administrative hurdles.
Here’s hoping the quality of production surpasses Prince’s expectations rather than being mere tracks hastily produced for profit.
What I’m trying to say is that my previous comment doesn’t undermine Chaka Khan’s talent. She’s indeed an exceptional artist. However, it’s peculiar how, following the death of a renowned artist, numerous new songs seem to surface. Not every recording a person makes deserves widespread attention.
Nonetheless, Khan continued to express her admiration for the artist during an interview. She shared, “Prince seemed to pluck ideas from thin air, leaving you questioning, ‘Where did that come from?’ He was a profound and captivating thinker. We collaborated on numerous songs, which will all be featured on an upcoming album of mine – we’ve encountered some bureaucratic hurdles, but we’ve managed to overcome them. It’s a project involving him, me, and Larry Graham.
