The captivating aspect of Atomfall lies in delving into its richly-detailed universe to unravel the intricacies of its enigmatic mystery. Unlike many games that favor an open-world layout, Atomfall’s world is meticulously crafted, divided into several distinct regions that are accessed through loading screens.
Each region within this game boasts its own distinctive style and structure, allowing for various methods to explore their hidden secrets and navigate between them. Yet, while certain areas showcase Atomfall’s strengths, others might not measure up. So, which regions stand out as the top picks within the game?
6.
Windscale Plant
Final Stretch
It makes sense that you’ll spend minimal time in Windscale Plant as it is the least eventful area, offering fewer opportunities for exploration. However, to access Windscale Plant, you must first power up every part of the Interchange and open each entrance. Once you’ve done so, you can venture there, complete the game, and unlock one of its endings.
Once you successfully gain entry, you’ll find yourself presented with two straightforward options to reach the final room where Oberon is confined. These paths aren’t particularly noteworthy, primarily functioning as battlefields for a few challenging adversaries (though skipping them is also an option). However, the last section offers a bit more flexibility, allowing you to delve deeper while accomplishing the remaining tasks. Upon encountering Oberon in all his splendor, you’ll be granted the freedom to explore further.
5.
Slatten Dale
First Hurdle

Leaving the initial bunker, you’ll encounter the breathtaking view of Slatten Dale. Among all areas in Atomfall, Slatten Dale appears most hilly, providing an opportunity for strategic navigation and keeping an eye out for potential dangers lurking around.
Despite Slatten Dale being one of the more scenic areas in Atomfall, it’s regrettably one of the less fertile. The initial bunker serves as a tutorial, and Slatten Dale extends this safe environment (except for wandering outlaws) for you to tinker with the game’s mechanics and explore. There are hidden treasures to discover, but after a couple of visits, there aren’t many incentives to revisit the region.
4.
Wyndham Village
Want To Be Where The People Are

In many ways, Wyndham Village might seem more like the core or heart of Atomfall than the Interchange, which is technically the center according to the map. This village is essentially the only place in the game where players can consistently feel secure, and most non-player characters (NPCs) will tolerate your presence unless you deliberately upset them by violating the Protocol.
You’ll frequently revisit Wyndham Village to accomplish tasks and investigate leads, as many friendly NPCs reside here. However, due to its densely populated nature, opportunities for exploration are limited compared to other areas. Despite your frequent visits to Wyndham, these trips will likely be brief, as after the initial visit, there isn’t much new to discover except the inhabitants.
3.
Skethermoor
Protocol HQ

As a dedicated admirer of Skethermoor, I can attest that there are multiple paths leading into this intriguing realm. Regardless of your chosen route, you’ll find yourself face to face with the majestic Protocol base, standing tall at the heart of it all. While venturing into the more deserted zones on the periphery offers an enticing exploration opportunity, the constant presence of Protocol forces in the region ensures a heightened sense of awareness at every turn.
In contrast, the distinction between Protocol territory and its surrounding regions offers an intriguing approach to exploration, making it a place you’ll likely want to revisit, particularly if you manage to gain entry to delve into the Protocol-controlled zone. Skethermoor is notable for its abundance of bunkers, hidden treasures, and unexpected friendly encounters. Additionally, Skethermoor houses Skethermoor Prison, although it’s a more linear area, it stands out as one of the more intricately designed dungeon-like zones outside the Interchange.
2.
Casterfell Woods
Walking Children In Nature

Should you walk into Casterfell Woods via the Wyndham gateway, initially, it may appear that you’ve stumbled upon an abandoned version of the neighboring village. However, as you delve further in, the urban landscape gradually surrenders to nature, creating a breathtaking contrast and numerous distinctive landmarks along the way.
Casterfell Woods is another captivating location to discover, boasting winding trails and a harmonious blend of natural beauty and man-made constructions. A standout feature is an old, derelict raised road that cuts through the heart of the area, terminating at one of the druid territory’s entrances, signaled by colossal Wicker Men. The thick foliage conceals numerous mysteries, along with attractions such as the Castle Remains, Datlow Hall, and the Dam.
1.
The Interchange
The Centerpiece

Initially, the Interchange might seem intimidating and enclosed, but as you visit more frequently, often entering from different points, the complex layout of this expansive area gradually becomes clearer. With every massive quarantine door you open and each region you activate, the vast space will awaken in diverse, dynamic manners.
As various groups accompany you through fresh entryways, automated turrets and protective mechanisms will become active, turning your journey into a more strategically crafted test. Although this artificial environment may seem less vibrant compared to the other organic zones, it compensates with the diverse levels of Oberon mutation and spore infestations that have taken hold in various locations. Notably, The Interchange houses both the Medical and Robotics sectors, which are intricate and richly detailed dungeons that are as thrilling to navigate as they are tense.
