Boy Meets World Stars Recall ‘Painful’ Season 6 Episode Featuring Fred Savage

As a devoted admirer, I’m sharing an interesting update about my beloved show “Boy Meets World.” Actors Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle have recently revealed that there’s one episode from the series that they find too emotionally challenging to revisit now.

Why did the Boy Meets World stars find the episode painful?

In their latest Pod Meets World podcast session, where they rewatch the series together, the team discussed Season 6, Episode 7, titled “Everybody Loves Stuart.” This episode features Topanga (Fishel) and Cory (Ben Savage) developing friendships with their college professor, who is portrayed by Fred Savage, Ben’s real-life brother. The plot unfolds as Stuart starts showing inappropriate affection towards Topanga.

Following Topanga sharing some events with Cory, he wound up in a fight with Stuart, which almost resulted in his suspension from school. On a second viewing, the group commented that the storyline didn’t adequately explore Topanga’s experiences during the episode.

In the episode mentioned by Fishel (as reported by People), she commented that the situation faced by Topanga seemed to center around: ‘What will be the reaction and response of the man in her life?’ This scenario, as Fishel pointed out, significantly diminished Topanga’s autonomy or self-determination.

In simpler terms, Strong (the actor who portrayed Shawn Hunter) found the episode “difficult” to rewatch in retrospect. Similarly, Friedle (the actor who played Eric Matthews) felt that they should have kept more focus on Topanga’s storyline during the episode.

Corey now leads the narrative, focusing on his response to the events involving Topanga, as per Friedle’s statement. He believes that the plot should have continued with Topanga’s storyline, finding it more captivating in his opinion.

Although Fishel pointed out that the show primarily focused on Cory’s perspective, she suggested incorporating a scene where Cory queries Topanga about her preferred course of action and ways he could offer his best support.
