Why have Nintendo Switch 2 preorders been delayed?
Following the unveiling of their latest console earlier this week, Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for the anticipated Switch 2 (set for launch on June 5, 2025) will be available starting April 9, 2025.
Nevertheless, as announced initially by GameSpot, the company has decided to postpone the pre-order date in the U.S., citing concerns about potential effects from tariffs imposed by the Trump administration after their recent declaration.

As a fervent admirer, I’ve been pondering about how global prices might be impacted by the latest tariffs implemented by the Trump administration. In a recent analysis by Niko Partners, Daniel Ahmad pointed out an intriguing scenario: due to tariffs levied on Vietnam, where Nintendo shifted production of the Switch 2 (given U.S. tariffs on China), there’s a possibility that Nintendo might have to increase the console’s price even further.
It appears that Nintendo hasn’t announced delays in preordering the Nintendo Switch 2 for other countries yet, which suggests that it might still be possible to preorder the system internationally. Several popular retailers such as Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop have started setting up placeholder sites for preorders of the Nintendo Switch 2.
