New Thunderbolts* Trailer Reveals Real Villain at CinemaCon 2025

The newly unveiled trailer for Thunderbolts, shown at CinemaCon, appears to have definitively revealed the film’s primary antagonist. Expected to hit theaters in May 2025, the story revolves around a motley crew of previous MCU adversaries who band together following Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina recruiting them for a perilous mission. Despite the strong suspicion among fans that Lewis Pullman’s Sentry could be the film’s main villain, hints from the description of the CinemaCon footage suggest that another character is orchestrating events covertly.

CinemaCon’s Thunderbolts* trailer sees the team square off against Sentry and Val

As a gamer, I’ve just caught a glimpse of the Thunderbolts trailer where the team, under Bucky Barnes’ command (Sebastian Stan), tried to sneak into a building using a truck. But when we arrived at our supposed safe house, it turned out that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Val, had tricked us into meeting her for a trap! Now I’m pretty sure she’s the big bad of this movie.

The scene begins by showing Bucky Barnes and David Harbour’s character, the Red Guardian, driving a truck. In the back of the truck are Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is their setup. As the Red Guardian queries Bucky about their secret plan, it becomes clear that the Winter Soldier plans to crash the vehicle into a specific building in order to create an entrance for them.

Later in the clip, we see the Thunderbolts engaged in battle with numerous gun-wielding adversaries, ceasing their fight once they hear Valentina’s voice over the speakers. She instructs them to ascend, leading our cunning agent to hurl a barrage of insults at the team through a hidden communication channel.

Later on, Val discloses, “You’re all so endearing. I dispatch you to wage war amongst yourselves, yet here you are bonding and working together,” exposing her malicious intent towards the team. Enraged, Bucky swiftly prepares a retaliatory strike, only to be halted by an unexpected threat – it appears to be Lewis Pullman’s Sentry, sent by Val.

Despite Marvel not officially confirming Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ role in Thunderbolts, the CinemaCon trailer suggests she might be the main antagonist of the film. As Thunderbolts is set to premiere on May 2, 2025, fans will find out soon enough whether this assumption holds true.
