Aimee Lou Wood & Walton Goggins Didn’t Meet Before The White Lotus

Aimee Lou Wood, who plays a role in the third season of The White Lotus, has disclosed an unusual approach to casting by Mike White, the renowned director. It appears that he often goes with his gut instinct when choosing actors. Wood shared that she had no prior encounter with her co-star Walton Goggins before filming started.

What did Aimee Lou Wood reveal about The White Lotus casting?

Aimee Lou Wood, who’s been earning rave reviews for her role as Chelsea in The White Lotus season 3, shared some insights into Mike White’s approach to casting. On April 3, she dropped by Late Night With Seth Meyers for a chat about the show ahead of its upcoming finale next week.

Wood stated that there was no “chemistry test” in the process of Mike White casting her alongside Walton Goggins. She elaborated, “It seems like they’ve been searching for a character named Chelsea for some time. Mike has a knack for casting; he relies heavily on his intuition. We don’t conduct chemistry tests. In fact, Walton and I had never met before.” (via Daily Mail)

As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that the 31-year-old actress casually mentioned during an interview that “the three of us,” presumably referring to Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), Kate (Leslie Bibb), and Laurie (Carrie Coon)—who were yet to meet each other prior to the filming—had not crossed paths before the cameras began rolling.

Speaking enthusiastically about Mike White’s approach to casting, she pointed out that he asked her to perform one scene in an American accent and another using her native Manchester accent. As fans are aware, Chelsea is a character deeply interested in astrology. Therefore, Wood shared that adopting her Manchester accent brought “unique” traits to the part.

Each installment of The White Lotus brings a new set of enigmas, and Wood expresses her sense of relief as all the secrets will be revealed by next Sunday. In her own words, “I discovered the truth when I was 29 years old. Now I’m 31. For that long, I’ve been keeping this secret, so I really want it to end now.

Earlier in an interview with The Cut, Wood described the character of Chelsea from The White Lotus as having a warm quality. When discussing her portrayal of Chelsea, she mentioned that Aimee was more like a storm cloud. However, when playing Chelsea, Wood felt energetic and needed someone to help tone her down. She also spoke about her Manchester accent, which gave her character a solid foundation. Wood praised the people of Manchester, stating that there’s a certain directness and warmth to them.
