Fox Renews ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Family Guy’, ‘Bob’s Burgers’ & ‘American Dad!’

In a unique turn of events, Fox has secured a 4-series arrangement for four seasons each, extending the run of classic animated shows such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers for another four years. Additionally, it has been confirmed that American Dad! will rejoin the network following an 11-year absence, also with a commitment for four seasons. By doing so, Fox strengthens its position as the leading broadcast platform for adult animation, referring to this multi-year agreement with Disney TV Studios (negotiations for which have been ongoing for several months) as a “major animation deal.

The four animated comedies will continue airing until the 2028-29 broadcast season. This duration aligns with the length of the $1.5B extension Fox signed with Disney’s streaming service, Hulu, in November, which also concludes in 2029. This deal, granting in-season streaming rights to Fox and 20th TV Animation (now under Disney TV Studios), facilitated the extensive, multi-series, and multi-year acquisition agreement. Currently, Hulu and its sister service Disney+ hold exclusive global streaming rights for all 2,000 episodes of these four series in most regions, with Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, American Dad! on Hulu, and The Simpsons on Disney+ in the United States.

Reports indicate that each of the four series will consist of 15 episodes per season. This is less than the usual 22-episode seasons, but broadcast networks like Fox are opting for shorter runs due to scheduling and financial considerations. Shows such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers have already been airing fewer than 22 episodes per season in recent years.
