Souls games challenge players to discover and solve problems independently, as they’re usually not given many instructions. While The First Berserker Khazan offers some insights, you’ll find that you must figure out most aspects of the game on your own. The concept behind Netherworld Energy is largely a mystery, and understanding even the basic act of jumping can be perplexing at times.

Just like Soulstones, they undergo a similar process. Cracking open one will initially leave you puzzled, but the true meaning only becomes clear later on. However, let’s unravel this mystery together right now.

What Does “You’ve Destroyed a Mysterious Energy-Emitting Ore” Mean in The First Berserker Khazan?

Breaking Soulstones results in the message “You’ve shattered an enigmatic orbing releasing energy” appearing in The First Berserker Khazan. This new form of currency you acquire cannot be utilized immediately.

Soulstones are scattered throughout The First Berserker Khazan, often being small, red stones that are either concealed or placed in difficult-to-access locations. Occasionally, they can be found right around the next corner, but other times, you may need to hurl a Javelin at one to uncover it.

Each stage presents a specific code to crack and conquer, offering Soulstones as a reward which can later be exchanged for useful perks. After amassing a few of these, it’s essential to learn how to utilize them effectively.

Where to Use Soulstones in The First Berserker Khazan?


You unlock the ability to use Soulstones once you reach Mission 3: Forgotten Temple (Embars Ruins).

As you progress through the Embar Ruins, you encounter Daphrona for the first time about halfway through. She’s moving along the main path to finish the level, and it becomes clear that she crosses paths with the Phantom Blade, who seems to dislike her. However, once you understand her affinity for Soulstones, your feelings towards her may change.

After chatting with her for a moment, you gain access to using Soulstones. To initiate a trade, select the appropriate dialogue option. Whenever you wish to utilize Soulstones, you’ll need to decide on which stat to enhance.

Often, decisions revolve around a limited set of characteristics: Lacrima Gain, Health Restoration, Stamina Restoration, among others. While your approach to the game may vary from mine, I find that there’s an abundance of Lacrima in The First Berserker Khazan for me. As a result, the Lacrima choice seems unnecessary or redundant to me, making many dilemmas less challenging.

As you enhance more stats, the number of Soulstones required for each transaction increases. Eventually, you may need three or four Soulstones for a single level advancement, and this requirement continues to grow as the game progresses. This mechanic encourages you to delve deeper into each level, rewarding your exploration.

After wrapping up that mission, I find myself moving base to The Crevice. It’s where I can now trade in any remaining Soulstones with The First Berserker Khazan.
