New Fashion Exhibition in Paris Celebrates Snoopy’s Style

The AP Wire reports there’s a new fashion exhibition in Paris based on Snoopy from Peanuts:

An upcoming showcase in Paris highlights the evolution of fashion, featuring outfits donned by Snoopy and other beloved characters from the Peanuts comic strip.

“On Saturday, ‘Snoopy In Style’ debuts, honoring Charles M. Schulz and his cherished characters by delving into the transformation of their wardrobes and examining their impact on, and role within, popular culture as we approach the 75th anniversary of the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip on October 2.”

75 unique ensembles showcasing miniature replicas of Snoopy and his sibling Belle are being exhibited, with designs from renowned fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana, Betsey Johnson, Zac Posen, and Christian Siriano among others.

Jeannie Schulz, the founder of The Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center (and wife of the cartoonist), stated that he recognized the necessity for comic strip characters to possess their own distinctive style.

She explained later on that it’s important to identify a character and their role quickly. That’s why Charlie Brown was given a stripe, Lucy a painted dress, and Sally a bow,” she pointed out.

Jeannie Schulz explained that it’s hard to say exactly why Peanuts remains popular after 75 years, but she believes a big part of its appeal is due to “the fact that the dog is adorable, lovable, and sweet… (and) also because the comic strip reflects human nature.

Absolutely, it communicates far more about human nature than many contemporary comics. Even after 75 years since its inception, Peanuts remains a powerful symbol of culture, and Snoopy continues to be a timeless mascot.

The free exhibition runs through April 5 at Hôtel du Grand Veneur in the Marais district of Paris.
