Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi Is Finally Making MCU Return After 5 Years

Five years after stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Shang-Chi, I’m thrilled to be back and suiting up once more for Marvel Studios’ epic crossover film, Avengers: Doomsday. For the first time, I’ll be sharing the screen with other MCU legends in this much-awaited movie. This cinematic extravaganza is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Can’t wait!

In the final scene of his 2021 movie, fans last saw Liu’s Shang-Chi. Here, he encountered Benedict Wong as Wong, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. They were all puzzled about why the Ten Rings suddenly started glowing after Shang-Chi inherited it from his father. Apart from Avengers: Doomsday, a sequel to Liu’s Shang-Chi is being worked on at Marvel Studios, with Destin Daniel Cretton likely to continue as director.

Who is joining Shang-Chi in his MCU return?

In the upcoming movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday,” the talented duo Joe and Anthony Russo from the hit film “Avengers: Endgame” will take the helm as directors. The new addition to the series is penned by Stephen McFeely. Notably, Robert Downey Jr., an Academy Award winner, will reprise his role as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. The ensemble cast also includes the main characters of “The Fantastic Four,” with Pedro Pascal stepping into the shoes of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby playing Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn portraying Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach assuming the role of Ben Grimm/Thing.
