The Avengers: Endgame casting news appears to hint at who might live in Marvel Studio’s upcoming movie, Thunderbolts.
*Note: The correct title for the movie is “The Thunderbolts” and not “Thunderbolts*”. I apologize for any confusion caused.
In May, the film “Thunderbolts” from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be released in U.S. theaters. The movie brings back Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, along with Florence Pugh’s character Yelena Belova, David Harbour playing Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko portraying Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the official Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel kicked off a live broadcast revealing the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. Check out the video below to see it for yourself.
In the ensemble of Avengers: Doomsday, you’ll find Stan, implying that Bucky Barnes is expected to endure the Thunderbolts’ events. Additionally, it’s been disclosed that Russell is part of the cast, suggesting that John Walker will carry on battling in future encounters.
*Note: In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Thunderbolts” refers to a team where some characters from the original Thunderbolts comic book series are reimagined as villains who have been tricked or coerced into becoming heroes. The events of this team could potentially lead to the death of certain characters, but it is not confirmed in this statement that Bucky Barnes will survive the events specifically due to being a part of the Thunderbolts.
Pugh, Harbour, and other Thunderbolts cast members haven’t shown up in the livestream yet, but Jeff Sneider from The InSneider suggests that Marvel might reveal around 50 names in the video. This implies that announcements about their participation could still be on the horizon.
When this article was initially published, it emerged that Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, and Letitia Wright were among the characters featured in the Avengers: Doomsday video.
What else do we know about Marvel’s Thunderbolts*?
In Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios gathers an unusual lineup of anti-hero characters – Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. The plot revolves around these disenchanted outcasts who are drawn into a deadly trap laid by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Faced with a perilous assignment that will compel them to confront their deepest past traumas, this troubled team must decide if they’ll tear each other apart or find redemption and coalesce into something greater before it’s too late.
Under the guidance of director Jake Schreier, the ensemble of Thunderbolts features Lewis Pullman portraying Bob, Geraldine Viswanathan in the role of Mel, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
*Note: In this context, “cast” refers to the actors who play characters within the movie or series.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that starting from my calendar in 2025, Thunderbolts will be unleashed on the big screens across the United States on May 2nd! The sequel, Avengers: Doomsday, is set to follow suit on May 1st, 2026. And the excitement doesn’t stop there – we’ll also get our hands on Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7th, 2027. Can’t wait!
