Rust Trailer: First Footage of Alec Baldwin Western Revealed After Tragic Set Shooting

The first trailer for Rust has been revealed.

Rust” is a Western film produced and helmed by Joel Souza, with Alec Baldwin playing the role of an old-timer named Harland Rust. Unfortunately, during its production in 2021, there was a tragic incident where the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally wounded when a real bullet was accidentally fired from a prop gun that Baldwin was handling.

What happens in the Rust trailer?

In “The Rust Trailer,” actor Patrick Scott McDermott takes on the role of an orphan named Lucas McCalister. During the 1880s in Kansas, he unwittingly causes a rancher’s death and is subsequently faced with the severe punishment of hanging, as outlined by the official plot description from Variety.

As fortune would have it, my long-lost grandpa, the infamous outlaw Harland Rust (Baldwin), orchestrates my daring escape from prison. He then whisks me away, hotfooting it towards Mexico. On this dangerous journey through the relentless wilderness, I and my fugitive companion find ourselves pursued by the unyielding U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and a remorseless bounty hunter known as Preacher (Travis Fimmel).

Initially, Baldwin faced charges for involuntary manslaughter due to the accident, but in July, the case was dropped because the prosecution neglected to share crucial evidence. On the other hand, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who is Armorer, is now serving an 18-month sentence.

The production of Rust temporarily stopped after Hutchins’ passing, but it continued again in 2023. Rust made its debut at Polan’s Camerimage Festival in November 2024; however, Baldwin was not present for the premiere event.

Excitedly speaking as a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that, as reported by PEOPLE, the much-anticipated film “Rust” is set for a grand release! On May 2, 2025, it will grace select movie theaters across the United States. But, The digital version will also be available on that very same day! Can’t wait for this cinematic journey!
