Actress Gemma Arterton, known for her roles in Quantum of Solace and The King’s Man, has taken on the leading part in ITV’s five-episode espionage series titled Secret Service. In this role, she will depict a British intelligence officer tasked with discovering the hidden Russian spy embedded within the government’s upper echelons.

Furthermore, Rafe Spall (from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Mark Stanley (Adolescence), Alex Kingston (known for Doctor Who), Roger Allam (of Endeavour), Amaka Okafor (Bodies), and Khalid Abdalla (The Day of the Jackal) are among those who have been added to the cast alongside Arterton in the upcoming series, which is adapted from Tom Bradby’s 2019 novel with the same title.
What is Secret Service starring Gemma Arterton about?
The story revolves around Kate Henderson (Arterton), a seasoned MI6 agent who appears to live an ordinary life as a civil servant married to Stuart (Spall) with two teenage kids. However, her real role is leading the Russia Desk at the Secret Intelligence Service, a fact unknown to many. The plot thickens when Kate’s covert missions uncover potentially damning proof that a prominent U.K. politician might be a Russian spy, plunging her into a frantic quest to expose their secret identity.
The Secret Service movie will be helmed by Oscar-winning director James Marsh and Farren Blackburn, based on a screenplay penned by Bradby and Jemma Kennedy. Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood are serving as executive producers for this production, which comes from Potboiler Productions. The filming is expected to start in Malta and London during the spring season.
