Malcolm in the Middle Recasts Dewey Actor for Disney+ Reboot

The upcoming Malcolm in the Middle Disney+ revival has recast Dewey.

Initially, Erik Per Sullivan was cast as the younger sibling Dewey in the hit TV series Malcolm in the Middle, which first aired on Fox in 2000 and continued for seven successful seasons. The show was created by Linwood Boomer.

Disney Plus has begun developing a four-part reboot of the popular series Malcolm in the Middle. Original cast members Frankie Muniz (Malcolm), Bryan Cranston (Hal), Jane Kaczmarek (Lois), Christopher Masterson (Francis), and Justin Berfield (Reese) will be back to reprise their roles.

Who is playing Dewey in the Malcolm in the Middle revival?

Per Deadline, Dewey will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark in the new limited series.

According to an article from Deadline, it was anticipated that this move would occur. Notably, Erik Per Sullivan, who initially portrayed the character on the original show, was not expected to reappear as he retired from acting in 2010 and has been absent during all Malcolm in the Middle reunions.

Furthermore, Anthony Timpano has been chosen to portray Jamie, a character who was just an infant and toddler in the initial show, while Vaughan Murrae takes on the role of Kelly, the youngest member of the Wilkerson family. Interestingly, Kelly is not present in Malcolm in the Middle; instead, the series finale hinted that Lois is expecting her sixth child.

According to an article on Deadline, Kelly is portrayed as independent, managing to earn high grades and demonstrating a level of wisdom beyond her relatives’ age group.

Excitedly, I’ve learned that Keeley Karsten is set to portray Malcolm’s daughter, Leah, a role originally speculated for Kiana Madeira as his girlfriend. This casting twist piques my curiosity and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds!

The comeback of Malcolm in the Middle will bring about a reunion of the entire Wilkerson family, celebrating Hal and Lois’ 40th wedding anniversary. Boomer is back to pen and oversee the production, while Bryan Cranston, Tracy Katsky, Gail Berman, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, and Ken Kwapis are also involved as executive producers. Notably, Ken Kwapis will direct all four episodes of this revival.

A Disney+ premiere date for the Malcolm in the Middle revival has not yet been announced.
