Master the Ultimate Strategy to Defeat Volbaino in The First Berserker: Khazan!

Originally, Volbaino, who once protected the village of Phraugh, started becoming uncontrollable following an invasion by dragonkin. Now, he’s transformed into a destructive force, wreaking havoc on what was once precious to him. Players can locate him at the culmination of Mission 5, near the entrance of the Central Storehouse (Blade Nexus), but they must first eliminate the fiery carts that obstruct the shortcut to his battleground.

As a dedicated admirer, I can’t help but share about the enigmatic entity known as the Spirit of Advocacy. Unlike other beings, summoning this spirit comes with a unique trade-off – it will prevent me from achieving certain Trophies or Achievements. However, armed with the knowledge in this guide about Volbaino’s attack patterns and strategies to conquer him effectively, I am ready for the challenge!

Volbaino Attack Overview In The First Berserker: Khazan

Attack Image How To Avoid
Two-Hit Hammer Slam
Volbaino uses his hammer to slam the player twice. After losing a lot of health, he can follow up with a spinning slam. The first two slams are easy to guard, but the spinning slam is delayed, so you must time your Brink Guard or dodge it to avoid taking damage.
Chisel Strike
The boss embeds the chisel in the ground near the player and slams his hammer on it. Guarding is the best option for both attacks.
Hammer and Chisel Slam
Volbaino performs a horizontal strike, followed by alternating slams with both weapons before finishing with a delayed double slam. Brink Guarding the double slam allows you to land a swift combo.
Descending Slam
The boss runs toward the ladder and jumps to the second floor. He then screams before leaping down and slamming both weapons. The Brink Guard timing isn’t too difficult, but dodging is recommended if you struggle to time it correctly, as it deals significant damage.
Alternating 8-Hit Combo
Volbaino starts the attack with a horizontal strike, then alternates between both weapons, slamming the player six times before performing a Burst Attack. The timing between each slam is consistent, allowing you to adjust your guards accordingly. Finish by counterattacking the Burst Attack to deal damage to the boss.
Echoing Strike
The boss smashes his hammer and chisel together, creating a bell-like sound and dealing damage. He performs this twice during the fight, but if you dodge away from the first strike, he may cancel the attack and charge at you with a different move.
Horizontal Strikes
Volbaino alternates between his hammer and chisel to perform horizontal attacks. The timing on these strikes can be tricky, so you’ll need practice to successfully Brink Guard them.
Ignition Strike
The boss licks his chisel before embedding it in the ground, then strikes it, igniting the entire area and inflicting the flame status effect. As soon as you see the chisel being embedded, run to the ladder and climb to the second floor.
Chisel Slam
This is a smaller version of Ignition Strike, where the boss ignites a small area. Simply move away to avoid damage.

How To Beat Volbaino In The First Berserker: Khazan

Volbaino is the fourth primary story battle adversary, and many players should find this encounter less challenging compared to fighting Viper. The fight initiates with Volbaino repeatedly slamming his hammer, and he also possesses the Chisel Strike ability. Fortunately, both of these attacks can be easily defended once you master the timing.

In the initial stage, be on the lookout for repeated weapon attacks that culminate in a massive double impact. This impact causes substantial damage, but if timed correctly, a Brink Guard can momentarily stun the boss. This brief stun period offers an opportunity to unleash a full series of swift strikes before readying for another guard.

As the battle unfolds, Volbaino’s chisel will begin to ignite. To put out the sparks, you need to defend against every chisel strike effectively.

Failing to guard against his blazing chisel attacks will deal damage and increase your flame meter.

During the Ignition Strike assault, swiftly make your way to the second story to steer clear of getting singed. If your flame gauge gets filled, feel free to employ Fire Cleanse Potions. You might already have these on hand from this particular mission, but if not, you can buy them from the Bard stationed at the Forgotten Temple Entrance in Embar’s Temple for 3,000 Gold. To locate him, teleport to Blade Nexus, ascend the stairway, pass through the gate on your right, and follow the sound of music until you reach the spot.

If a flame is applied to Volbaino’s chisel on the second floor, he will persistently try to drive it into the floor, creating sparks that ignite small spots. This makes it challenging to extinguish the flames in that area.

Every time your supervisor hammers the chisel into the surface, he pauses for a moment before withdrawing it, creating an opportunity for you to inflict substantial harm. But remember to step back promptly when he’s about to pick it up to dodge any potential collisions.
