Many people online are curious as to why ABC decided to part ways with Roseanne Barr in relation to “The Conners,” which is set to conclude its seventh and final season this month. Notably, “The Conners” is a follow-up to the successful sitcom “Roseanne,” where Roseanne Barr played a central role. With her absence from the series, fans have become increasingly intrigued about the situation.
Here’s everything we know about why Roseanne Barr is absent from The Conners.
Here’s what got Roseanne Barr fired from ABC’s The Conners
Roseanne Barr is no longer associated with ABC’s The Conners, having been involved in a significant controversy back in 2018.
Roseanne Barr was the star of the hit 1980s sitcom “Roseanne,” one of television’s most beloved shows. The series began in 1988 and concluded in 1997, only to return for a brief period in 2018. Regrettably, the eagerly awaited comeback was cut short when ABC terminated Barr after she posted abhorrent and racist tweets. On May 28, 2018, Barr tweeted an offensive comment about Valerie Jarrett, a former advisor to President Obama, likening her to the product of the “Muslim Brotherhood” and “Planet of the Apes.
A day later, Barr removed her tweets and issued an apology to Jarrett that read, “I sincerely apologize to Valerie Jarrett and all Americans. My joke about her politics and appearance was ill-timed and inappropriate, and I should have been more thoughtful. I deeply regret my actions, as they were insensitive.” Regrettably, the harm had already been inflicted, and ABC swiftly terminated Barr’s contract. Consequently, the planned spin-off series of Roseanne was renamed The Conners instead.
The Conners first appeared on October 16, 2018, and dealt with Roseanne Barr’s absence by having her character, Roseanne Conner, die from an opioid overdose in the premiere episode. This twist was not welcomed by Barr, who expressed her displeasure on social media. She tweeted, “I’M NOT DEAD, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!” and criticized ABC for their decision as being “grim” and “morbid.
In a recent chat with Variety this year, Barr openly expressed her dislike for ABC. When asked if she’d consider collaborating with the network for her upcoming show, she bluntly said, “Absolutely not.” Currently, Barr runs her own podcast titled The Roseanne Barr Podcast and is also busy developing a new comedy series.
