For approximately a month now, fans have been able to cast their votes for the potential inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025. There’s still about a month left to do so. The voting period ends on April 21st. Once all the fan votes are collected, they will be combined into a single ballot.
As a dedicated fan, it’s not uncommon to feel that our votes might not hold significant weight in deciding who gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bands don’t necessarily crave victory in the voting process; rather, they yearn for recognition and inclusion. To be overlooked despite leading the vote count could feel akin to putting in years of hard work at your job, only to receive an award that doesn’t quite seal the deal—a plaque, perhaps, acknowledging you as the top vote-getter for the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame balloting. Yet, enshrinement remains elusive, leaving one to wonder if their efforts have truly been validated.
In the initial phase, Phish is clearly dominating, leaving others far behind. However, does this early lead guarantee their induction? Probably not. But a group showing recent progress could potentially make a strong case.
One band has moved into second place in 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voting
Initially, Bad Company was about three steps behind Billy Idol in terms of fan voting, but things started changing for the band last week. Despite being nearly a thousand votes behind Idol, Bad Company has managed to outrun the punk star, now leading by over 3,000 votes.
As a diehard gamer of rock music history, I’ve got to say it: At least five out of the top six most voted-for bands should definitely be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Among them, my fellow grunge pioneers Soundgarden are absolutely deserving. After all, Pearl Jam and Nirvana have already secured their place in the hall, so it’s high time for Soundgarden to join them as Seattle’s rightful representatives.
Bands with minimal or no significant international impact, particularly among their fanbase, include the Mexican pop-rock group Maná (currently touring) and Oasis. This further underscores the fact that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is predominantly an American institution rather than the global one it should be. Phish lacks a substantial global presence, while Oasis, though popular worldwide, ranks near the bottom in terms of popularity within the United States.
