Following the success of the Fallout TV show, Amazon is working on an adaptation of God of War. Reportedly based on the modern Norse games instead of the Greek originals, the series has been greenlit for two seasons at Amazon.
With a large group of writers currently working on the series, showrunner Ronald D. Moore admitted that he attempted to play the games, but couldn’t figure out modern controllers.
God of War showrunner hasn’t played the games
On The Sackoff Show, it was disclosed that two seasons of the show “God of War” are being written at Amazon right now.
Moore explained that working on such a huge property is daunting, especially since he hasn’t been able to get to grips with modern control schemes for the games. As a child of the arcades, the showrunner isn’t used to more complex controllers which stopped him from being able to experience the video game series.
“I’m not a gamer so it’s even more like, ‘okay, I’ve never done this before’. I’ve tried. I’m not a gamer. I’ll take a stab at it, but I, I dunno, I grew up on the arcade era, you know, where you go down and you put your quarters in and bang on the buttons. So, I can do that, I’ll play Defender, got a Defender game? Or Asteroids? Sure, bring it on, baby!”
As he went on, he said, “Alright, it’s the controls now. Hmm, w I just can’t seem to wrap my head around that critical instant.
While Moore’s inability to play through God of War before working on the show will likely be a point of contention for many fans, the showrunner has proven his TV pedigree time and time again.
Over decades of work, Moore has worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager as well as Battlestar Galactica, Outlander and the phenomenal Apple TV series For All Mankind. Additionally, as long as the series is respectful to the stories of the games, playing them isn’t essential to adapting them.
There’s still no release date for Amazon’s God of War series, but for more coverage of the awesome action game franchise read our interview with series composer Bear McCreary on the best day of his life.
