Shazam’s Grace Caroline Currey Says Playing Wonder Woman Would ‘Be Wild’

Grace Caroline Currey, the actress from Shazam!, has shared her thoughts on playing Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe (DCU).

James Gunn and Peter Safran are in the process of steadily building a new universe and it is still unclear whether Gal Gadot, who previously portrayed Wonder Woman in the DCEU, will return to the role or who will replace her if she doesn’t.

Grace Caroline Currey recently addressed the fan castings of her as the new Wonder Woman in the DCU.

During the San Diego Comic-Con: The Cruise, an interviewer from The Direct asked the actress about possibly returning to DC. She responded, “That’s a weighty question. It’s been wonderful to see people suggest it. I feel like getting to be part of that universe has felt like winning the lottery, and I’m not sure if I’ll get another chance to return in any capacity, but that would certainly be unexpected.

In the DCEU films Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the character Currey played was Mary Bromfield, who is also recognized by her alter ego, Mary Marvel.

Since the announcement of the DCU, there have been many fan speculations surrounding the role of Wonder Woman. Gunn has asserted that he would only hire professionals to play Wonder Woman in the new DCU though the role need not go to someone as famous as Gadot. He also shot down a rumor last year that Elizabeth Debicki had been cast in the role of Wonder Woman for the DCU.

The first chapter of DCU, Gods and Monsters, is set to have a project named Paradise Lost, which will be based on the events in Themyscira before Wonder Woman. In November 2024, the DC co-CEO confirmed on Threads that the project is in “very active development.” However, the studio has not released any concrete information regarding the cast.
