This article contains minor spoilers for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Just as skilled comedians can deliver a hilarious joke, have you forget about it, then cleverly reference it later for another round of laughter, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 employs a similar technique – but instead of jokes, they keep bringing up the recurring theme of Henry carrying numerous sacks, always finding new ways to make you chuckle.
Hauling Sacks For Hans Capon
As the lengthy RPG unfolds, we find Henry of Skalitz living as a common servant for his friend, Hans Capon, a nobleman. Despite their friendship, Hans considers himself too high-class to perform manual labor. Tension arises when Hans refuses to assist Henry in tasks required for their shared accommodation. The innkeeper informs them that they must move a number of flour sacks from an outdoor cart into the pantry to stay the night. Predictably, Hans declines, as it would tarnish his noble image to perform such common work. Frustrated and unable to reason with him, Henry takes on the task himself.
If you find yourself similar to me, this part of the game might offer some respite. While the initial stages are guided, they serve as valuable tutorials on various aspects such as combat, brewing potions, moving stealthily, playing dice, feeding your pet, and more. Once you’re asked to transport sacks instead, it provides a welcome break from learning new things. You simply click a button to pick up a sack, then stroll at your own pace until you reach the delivery point. It’s straightforward and stress-free.
After placing the final item, Henry heads back to the courtyard, only to discover that Hans is embroiled in a dispute with another patron. Being a good friend, Henry steps in to support Hans, which escalates into a full-blown fight involving what appears to be half of the town. The altercation concludes with both men in the pillory, leaving Henry disheartened by the predicament caused by Hans’ arrogance. The confrontation intensifies, the friendship suffers, and upon their release from the stocks, they part ways.
Into The Sack-Haulin’ World

Currently, you find yourself in a contrasting situation compared to the tutorial. Previously, you were confined to the rails, now you’re entirely free to traverse the expansive landscape of Bohemia with minimal direction. Hans has vanished, leaving you to fend for yourself. However, thanks to the herbwoman Bozhenna, you have a place to rest and eat. Navigating through the game’s intricate web of systems is now your responsibility.
You gradually learn how to engage in combat (or, at least, consistently evade it), locate herbs, concoct potions, generate income, and pilfer items without getting caught. You also figure out ways to acquire armor, block attacks, and occasionally emerge victorious from a fight. The game still seems to be working against you, but when you encounter Miller Kreyzl, there’s a sense that your fortunes are starting to change.
After roaming through the wilderness for hours without furthering the main storyline, I eventually ended up at Lower Semine Mill. There, I fortuitously met someone who offered me long-term lodging, not just a temporary bed for the night. As soon as I arrived, he put me to work moving sacks. In this intricate game where simplicity is rare, the task of carrying sacks was surprisingly within my capabilities – a welcome relief after days of aimless wandering and learning. It was like finding a home sweet home.
Post-Marital Sacks
Upon my long-awaited arrival at the wedding, it turned out to be an enjoyable event. Hans and I reconciled. I managed to grab as much food as I could without overstepping bounds. I emerged victorious from a game of dice. Henry met an appealing lady; to put it politely, a gentleman keeps such matters confidential. All in all, it was a delightful evening that concluded with the wedding ceremony.
Later on, there was a dispute that escalated into a fight, which landed Hans and I in prison. Currently, my friend is facing execution for illegal hunting, a crime against the monarchy. I was released from my confinement to perform manual labor. The first chore assigned to me? Carrying bags. It was uncanny. At every turn, this game consistently reminds me of carrying sacks. Whenever life in Bohemia becomes too stressful – for me or for Henry – Warhorse provides me with a bag and seems to suggest, “You’re at least intelligent enough to do this.
