At Hamburger Bahnhof – Modern Art Gallery, Ayoung Kim’s Many Worlds Over distorts time and dimension, enveloping viewers in a world where past, present, and future merge into a single entity. This exhibition runs until July 20 and marks Kim’s first solo show in a German museum. It unites her AI-driven work, videos, game simulations, and sculptures to delve into themes of identity, queerness, and sense of belonging.
Fundamentally, we have the setting of “Delivery Dancer,” a forward-thinking Seoul cityscape. Here, a female delivery driver and her twin counterpart navigate through interconnected dimensions. In this universe, time repeats and splits, so what initially appears as a routine delivery journey transforms into an entanglement of various realities.
In Kim’s digital art, the boundaries between screen and reality blur. Her gallery is not static; instead, it adapts, reflecting her exploration of fluidity and disorientation. Visitors find themselves moving through overlapping timeframes, immersed in speculative universes that question the essence of being in numerous realities.
