Split Fiction Director Wants To Make A(nother) Movie

Split Fiction director Josef Fares wants to make another movie – here’s everything we know so far:

Hazelight Studios

Hazelight Studios, established by Josef Fares in 2014, is a game development company. To date, they’ve launched three games: “A Way Out” (2018), “It Takes Two” (2021), and “Split Fiction” (2025). All of their releases have been cooperative games designed for two players, with the unique feature that both players can see each other’s actions on a split screen.

Hazelight Studios consistently delights players with imaginative and intricate world-creation, engaging and thrilling narratives, and a diverse array of game mechanics that never cease to amaze.

Or in another way:

Players have been captivated time and again by Hazelight Studios’ unique worlds, gripping stories, and innovative gameplay elements, from tales of escaping imprisonment to unexpected transformations into toys, even finding themselves trapped within their own narratives.

Moreover, these characteristics could potentially be beneficial for Fares if his aim is indeed to create another film.

Fares As A Movie Director

If you didn’t realize, Josef Fares had previously directed films before venturing into video game creation. While his films may not be globally recognized at present, this could shift with his recent achievements. Here is a list of the films he has already directed:

  • 2000: Jalla! Jalla!
  • 2003: Kopps
  • 2005: Zozo
  • 2007: Leo
  • 2010: Balls

What film is he planning to produce now? It isn’t the announced adaptation of “It Takes Two” in 2022, as Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be in charge of that project instead of Josef Fares. However, during an interview on Dexerto’s YouTube channel Fall Damage, Fares expressed his desire to create another movie and even revealed that he already has a story idea for it.

“I do, however, have a plan to make an action comedy. I have like a story written down, like just a synopsis. If I have the time, if it doesn’t clash with my game development, because again, games is number one, then I will do a movie” – Josef Fares

Let’s find out if his concept materializes into something real – Fares’ exceptional writing certainly gives us hope! However, it remains to be seen whether he’ll continue with video games or direct another film; regardless, we can confidently expect even more outstanding work from him down the line.

Have you seen any of Fares’ past films? What do you think about him creating another one? Share your thoughts below!
