Focus Features has disclosed the theatrical re-release date for a special screening of the timeless romantic drama “Pride & Prejudice“. Initially released in 2005, this adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel has earned an impressive Certified Fresh rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, after being reviewed by 179 critics.
This movie presents a contemporary take on one of the most legendary love stories, where Elizabeth Bennet encounters the dashing Mr. Darcy. At first, she thinks he’s the last man she would ever want to marry. However, as their lives intersect, she becomes enthralled by the person she vowed to despise forever. It is a timeless story of love and misconception, filled with romantic charm, quick wit, and powerful emotions.

When is the Pride & Prejudice theatrical rerelease?
To celebrate its 20-year milestone, I’m thrilled to share that Pride & Prejudice is returning to cinemas nationwide as part of a unique theatrical event, kicking off on April 20! In this movie version, Joe Wright was the one behind the camera, having crafted the directorial vision from Deborah Moggach’s screenplay. Keira Knightley played Elizabeth Bennet, with Matthew Macfadyen taking on the role of Mr. Darcy. Judi Dench starred as Lady Catherine, Donald Sutherland portrayed Mr. Bennet, Brenda Blethyn brought Mrs. Bennet to life, Rosamund Pike took on the part of Jane Bennet, Jenna Malone played Lydia Bennet, Talulah Riley embodied Mary Bennet, Simon Woods starred as Charles Bingley, Rupert Friend portrayed George Wickham, Tom Hollander stepped into the shoes of Mr. Collins, and Carey Mulligan, a fresh face in films at that time, made her debut with this production. The film went on to rake in over $122 million globally at the box office.
In October 2024, news broke that Netflix was in the process of creating a TV series based on Pride and Prejudice, with Dolly Alderton from Everything I Know About Love set to write it. Meanwhile, Netflix is also working on a movie adaptation of Ibi Zoboi’s 2018 novel Pride, which is a contemporary reinterpretation of Jane Austen’s work. Furthermore, the BBC is currently producing a spin-off series focusing on Mary Bennet’s story.
