DBD’s New Killer Has Fans Up In Arms

Behaviour Interactive has announced that the main character from Tokyo Ghoul, Ken Kaneki, will join The Fog as the upcoming killer, known as “The Ghoul.” This new portrayal of the popular anime hero introduces a chilling, horror-centric narrative to his tale, and players can experience him now in the Public Test Build of the game.

A Tokyo Ghoul Crossover? The Signs Were There

For observant Dead by Daylight enthusiasts, hints of a collaboration with Tokyo Ghoul have been subtly dropped in the game over the past few months. The enigmatic killer known as The Unknown has been subtly referencing Tokyo Ghoul through its cryptic voice lines, leading many players to suspect it was a precursor to an upcoming partnership. Furthermore, a puzzling poster in Greenville Square seemed to allude to the anime, but at the time, it appeared to be just an Easter egg. However, these suspicions have now been validated – Ken Kaneki is officially joining the game’s terrifying universe.

The Ghoul’s Origin Story in Dead by Daylight

In Tokyo Ghoul, Kaneki’s life undergoes a dramatic shift following an unexpected encounter with the dangerous Rize Kamishiro. After a tragic event, doctors transplant some of Rize’s organs into Kaneki, unwittingly metamorphosing him into a half-Ghoul – a being that needs human flesh to live. As he grapples with his remaining human emotions and his terrifying new craving, he seeks shelter at Anteiku, a seemingly ordinary café, which is actually managed by Ghouls.

Instead, Dead by Daylight portrays Kaneki’s descent into darkness in a more ominous fashion. In this revised scenario, Kaneki endures unyielding torment at the hands of Jason from “Tokyo Ghoul: Jack”, an ordeal that eventually fractures his mind. Pushed beyond redemption, he manages to break free – but finds himself ensnared by The Entity and transformed into one of its merciless slayers. With all reservations vanished, he prowls The Fog, instilling fear with his insatiable hunger for human flesh.

The Ghoul’s Deadly Abilities

As a devoted fan, I’d put it this way: My unique quirks, the twisted tendril-like structures sprouting from my back, serve as the foundation for my lethal prowess. These extraordinary limbs enable me to swiftly traverse the battlefield with a chilling speed, giving me an edge over my Survivor opponents that’s hard to beat. With strategic strikes, I can trigger my Enraged Mode, momentarily boosting my abilities and making me even more formidable in combat.

Enhancing the turmoil, his distinctive ability zeroes in on pressure and relentless pursuit, meaning that it’s tough for Survivors to slip away effortlessly. His incredible agility and unpredictability make him one of the most formidable killers recently introduced, offering a challenging encounter for those brave enough to confront him.

New Cosmetics and Release Date

Kaneki won’t be coming solo – his entry is accompanied by a Tokyo Ghoul themed makeup line set to debut on April 2nd. The collection encompasses:

  • A Rize Kamishiro-inspired outfit for Kaneki, paying homage to the Ghoul who changed his fate.
  • Four Very Rare Survivor outfits, allowing players to embrace the Tokyo Ghoul aesthetic.
  • Four exclusive masks for various killers, further expanding the horror game’s crossover potential.

Excitement or Controversy?

The developers have made it clear that The Ghoul’s Mori isn’t for those with a weak stomach, as they describe his finishing move as extremely graphic and something that must be witnessed to truly understand its intensity. Given the violent nature of Tokyo Ghoul’s original content, it’s reasonable to expect that Kaneki’s executions will rank among the most brutal in the game’s history.
