As an ardent fan, I’ve been following the buzz surrounding the upcoming Disney’s “Snow White” movie, and it seems there’s been quite a stir. Instead of going big with a glitzy red-carpet event, Disney has chosen to host an intimate premiere for this film. Interestingly, insiders have hinted that Disney had originally planned for a more subdued first screening for the movie right from the start.
Live-action Snow White remake reported to have a smaller premiere
The live-action Snow White remake is set to have its debut at Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on March 15, and it appears that around 1,000 guests such as celebrities, directors, and press personnel are expected to attend this event.
Despite plans for a red carpet, there won’t be any press at the Snow White premiere. Instead, photographers and our own production team will handle all coverage of the event.
As a dedicated fan, I find myself reflecting on Disney’s choice for a subdued unveiling of Snow White, given the recent turbulence swirling around the movie. Specifically, the lead actress, Rachel Zegler, has voiced her views about alterations to the film’s storyline, intended to bring it into the present, which has sparked discontent among enthusiasts of the classic original.
Furthermore, both Zegler and her fellow actor Gal Gadot have faced intense media scrutiny regarding their political stances. Zegler has expressed solidarity with Palestinians amidst recent tensions in the Israel-Palestine region, while Gadot has publicly supported Israel. The film’s choice to depict the Seven Dwarves as digitally created magical beings has sparked media criticism, with Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones garnering attention for his negative comments on this creative decision.
The response to the movie has been largely negative, as evidenced by the YouTube trailer statistics, which show over 1.5 million dislikes compared to only 53,000 likes. Interestingly, insiders at TheWrap claim that a smaller premiere was intentionally planned for this film, similar to the premieres of Inside Out 2 and Moana 2. This is presumably because the scale of these premieres will be consistent with their respective productions.
Snow White will be released in theaters on March 21, 2025.
