New iOS 19 Features Will ‘Dramatically Overhaul’ iPhone

A recently published online article hints at significant alterations coming to the iPhone and its interface with the upcoming version of iOS, tentatively named iOS 19. The report outlines various aspects of the system that will undergo transformation. It is speculated that Apple will unveil this new software during their Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2025.

Below, you’ll find details on the anticipated updates for iOS 19, which are set to revolutionize the user experience of iPhones.

Here is a rundown of what’s expected from the upcoming iOS 19 release, which promises significant changes for iPhone users.

Here’s how iOS 19 will affect iPhones

It’s rumored that iOS 19 may bring significant updates to the iPhone’s app icons, menus, applications, window layouts, and system control buttons.

As reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this revamp is considered one of the most significant software overhauls in Apple’s history. His remarks suggest that the aim is to modernize the interfaces of iPhone, iPad, and Mac for a fresh generation of users.

The overhaul of iOS 19 is its most significant since the introduction of iOS 7 back in 2013, a change that reshaped the iOS software system by incorporating the contemporary flat and sleek design style. Similarly, this update mirrors the release of MacOS 11 Big Sur from 2020.

Furthermore, Gurman emphasized that this transformation was intended to make the software designs of iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS more similar. He suggested that the interface of Apple Vision Pro’s visionOS would be a model for this transformation. Consequently, iOS 19 might incorporate circular app icons like those found in visionOS. Additionally, it could introduce enhanced gesture controls, revamped menu functions, and updated animations.

According to Bloomberg’s report, there are plans for a significant overhaul of Siri as well. At present, Siri operates with two distinct systems; one manages tasks like timers and alarms, while the other handles advanced controls. Unfortunately, this update is running late and won’t be unveiled at WWDC, as reported by 9 to 5 Mac.

The Camera app on iOS 19 is anticipated to undergo a significant transformation, according to Jon Prosser on YouTube. Instead of multiple controls, the app will feature only two buttons: “Photo” and “Video”. With the “Photo” button pressed, users can fine-tune settings like depth, spatial, pano, style, aspect ratio, exposure, and timer. The “Video” button, on the other hand, provides options for adjusting settings as well as features such as slo-mo, timelapse, action, and exposure. Prosser suggests that this redesign follows the design philosophy of visionOS.
