Based on Deadline’s reporting, it appears that Amazon Studios through MGM is showing a strong dedication towards cinemas when it comes to movie releases.
Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming, and theatrical, revealed during SXSW over the weekend that the company plans to roll out between 12 and 14 movies in cinemas next year as part of their growing dedication to the big screen. Their goal is to release up to 16 films by 2027. Although they recognize not every movie thrives on the big screen, a theatrical launch can boost a film’s performance when it transitions to streaming.
This strategic step is likely to entice directors who had been hesitant about studios linked to streaming platforms due to their avoidance of traditional theatrical releases. Such a decision could potentially enable the studio to secure a director for their upcoming James Bond movies, maybe even Christopher Nolan, who expressed interest in directing a Bond film and was close to reaching an agreement with past producers over creative control (final cut).
Nolan was also against films not getting a theatrical release.
Does this give you any more confidence in Amazon’s ability to shephered the James Bond property?
