Actress Anika Noni Rose, who played the lead role in “The Princess and the Frog”, has shared her thoughts following the cancellation of the Tiana series on Disney+.
Back in December 2020, Disney unveiled plans to create a full-length TV series inspired by the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog. This series, named “Tiana,” was intended to feature the original voice actress, Rose, reprising her role as the lead character.
Earlier this month, it became known that Disney decided to cancel the show because they are no longer producing long-format content for streaming platforms. Simultaneously, news emerged that Walt Disney Animation Studios is working on a new “short-format special” based on The Princess and the Frog. (The Hollywood Reporter reported this.)
What did Anika Noni Rose say about the canceled The Princess and the Frog show?
A week ago, it was shared that the series Tiana would not continue. On Instagram, I’ve received numerous messages filled with empathy, encouragement, and deep sadness. Many media outlets have asked me to issue a statement, but I prefer to speak to you personally.

I’m equally disheartened that Tiana’s story didn’t get a series continuation as planned. The project had been eagerly anticipated for quite some time, and there was an abundance of talent poured into it by various creatives such as Jenn Lee, our talented writer/director Joyce Sherri, skilled animators, and an exceptional music team.
It’s painful when something you’ve invested so much of yourself into ends before its time. However, I am optimistic that when the ‘Tiana Special Event’ airs, all of you wonderful, compassionate, devoted fans who have been advocating not just for the series, but a Princess and The Frog sequel, will tune in. When I say tune in, I mean, spread the word to your friends, family, colleagues, babysitters; share it with everyone who has cherished Princess Tiana, Naveen, Louis, Charlotte, Mama Odie, and the magic they’ve created together over the years. Watch it yourself and show your love and desire through the numbers. Let your enthusiasm be clear and tangible.
“Until then, we will be continuing to work hard to bring you the most beautiful content we can.
I deeply appreciate each and every one of you from the core of my being. For all the love you’ve shown through #TianaTuesday, #Disneybound, and every moment that has brightened my day here, for years now, you have kept Princess Tiana alive with her vibrant influence.
