The movie “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey“, originally planned for a spring release, has been pushed back by Sony Pictures on their revised theatrical schedule. Now, it’s scheduled to premiere in the fall, coinciding with releases like Universal’s Him and 20th Century Studios’ Ella McCay. Concurrently, the spring release calendar is experiencing a reduction in major studio-wide openings, resulting in a modified box office scene.
Sony pushes A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’s release date to September
As an eager admirer, I’m thrilled to share that my anticipated film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, originally scheduled for a May 9, 2025 release, has now been moved to September 19, 2025. Mark your calendars, fellow enthusiasts! The wait is still on, but the excitement grows stronger by the day!
Kogonada is the director of the movie titled “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. Originally, Sony planned to release this film in competition with Thunderbolts* during its second weekend; however, they’ve now decided to debut it alongside Universal’s Him and 20th Century Studios’ Ella McCay instead. The ensemble includes Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater as supporting actors.
*Thunderbolts is a fictional movie used for this example.
This movie is labeled as a creative story about two individuals and the extraordinary emotional voyage that binds them. It’s penned by Seth Reiss, renowned for The Menu, and co-produced by Bradley Thomas and Ryan Friedkin from Imperative Entertainment, together with Reiss and Youree Henley. In February 2024, Sony Pictures secured the film at the European Film Market in Berlin.
After rescheduling, May 9 no longer has a significant studio-wide premiere lined up. Instead, only IFC’s Clown in a Cornfield, Vertical Entertainment’s Fight or Flight, and Briarcliff Entertainment’s Juliet and Romeo are set to be released on that date. According to reports from Variety, Sony has changed the release date to optimally position the film for success within a market where female-led movies can shine.
Previously, Kogonada helmed the film “After Yang” before collaborating again with Colin Farrell on this new project. Most recently, Timothée Chalamet starred in “Asteroid City” and “Barbie,” set to release in 2023. Meanwhile, Colin Farrell has graced HBO’s “The Penguin” and “The Banshees of Inisherin.” The production company 30West funded a movie titled “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” with Sony Pictures overseeing its worldwide distribution.
