Bluesky App Version 1.99 extends video length to 3 minutes

In the ongoing competition for dominance in social media, Bluesky currently trails behind Twitter significantly, yet it persists in its efforts to become a more pleasant and engaging platform. Today, version 1.99 of the Bluesky app was released, introducing several updates. The most significant change is an increase in video upload length, allowing users to post videos up to three minutes long, nearly tripling the previous limit. Additionally, improvements have been made to muting options and direct messages as well.

This week, Bluesky unveiled the specifics of App Version 1.99 on its primary social media channel. The development team revealed a rundown of the modifications in this latest release, with the most significant change being an upgrade to video duration. Earlier, users could only submit videos that were one minute long and had a maximum file size of 50MB. With this update, users can now upload videos up to three minutes in length. The new file size limit isn’t specified yet, but it exceeds 50MB, as we successfully uploaded an 80MB file without any problems. However, attempting to upload files larger than 50MB will still result in a message indicating that the file must be smaller.

📣 We’re releasing Update 1.99 right now (1/5) Our goal with each update is to make the Internet a safer, more entertaining, and more user-controlled space for you. Here are some of the features:

* Longer videos, up to 3 minutes!
* A dedicated inbox for Direct Messages from users you don’t know yet
* Easier account muting options

Additionally, Bluesky has introduced some other enhancements today. You can find those updates detailed further down:

  • Videos are now up to 3 minutes long
  • A DMs “inbox” to approve or reject new direct messages
  • You can now mute accounts from a post’s “…” menu
  • An improved moderation reporting flow
  • Better tablet-size layouts on Web
  • Better error reporting during signup

The latest Bluesky App, Version 1.99, addresses its key features. With over two million users six months ago, the app has been steadily expanding, in part due to the struggles and negative impact of Elon Musk’s X (previously Twitter) platform. Keep an eye on the Bluesky topic for updates and additional information as it becomes available.
