Bocci Celebrates 20 Years with Two New Lighting Concepts

To commemorate its 20th anniversary, Bocci – a well-recognized multidisciplinary design studio famous for its groundbreaking lighting and sculptural creations – is preparing to unveil two fresh lighting ideas: the 141 and 14 Pyramid. These designs will be presented in a grand, site-specific installation within New York City, symbolizing a new phase in the studio’s investigations into materials and shape.

141 light fixture showcases a streamlined version of Bocci’s distinctive experimental design philosophy, led by Omer Arbel. This piece is made using a unique single-action glass-pouring technique. Different from previous designs that usually include complex layering and manipulation, 141 adopts a more minimalistic approach. By pouring two scoops of molten glass freely over a curved rod, it forms overlapping puddles. As the glass is lifted, it assumes an organic, unforeseen form, blending spontaneity with precise workmanship.

14 Pyramid is a fresh perspective on Bocci’s original 14 series, which debuted in 2005. In partnership with David Alhadeff from The Future Perfect, this updated design showcases a geometric layout that revolutionizes Bocci’s unique hanging system. It breaks away from traditional lighting setups, offering a balanced yet flexible structure that interplays with light and shadow.

14 Pyramid continues Bocci’s dedication to creating lighting that harmoniously blends functionality with sculpture. The pyramidal structure lends an architectural touch to their collection, providing a flexible option for modern spaces yearning for a cutting-edge appearance.
