Disney’s forthcoming live-action version of Snow White has encountered strong criticism, largely due to the comments made by its lead actress Rachel Zegler. Now, with the unexpected announcement of cancelling the film’s UK premiere, it seems that Disney is trying to lessen the anticipated criticisms, despite their perceived attempt at corporate damage control.

Disney’s modern take on “Snow White” has faced criticism following comments made by actress Zegler during early promotions, where she criticized the 1937 version and claimed her adaptation would address its shortcomings, sparking debate among fans who hold the original in high regard.
In an interview, Zegler stated, “She won’t be rescued by a prince and she’s not pining for true love,” she emphasized. Instead, she’s aspiring to become the fearless, fair, brave leader her father predicted she could be in his lifetime. She also mentioned that unlike the original film, the character of Prince Florian won’t be pursuing Snow White relentlessly, as it seemed strange and uncomfortable; hence, they chose not to include such a plotline in this version.
Her demeanor seemed arrogant and presumptuous, which wasn’t appealing at all, and it turned out that she was difficult to deal with on our very first encounter. Regrettably, this pattern of being hard to tolerate repeated itself numerous times.

The movie’s expenses for advertising and promotional materials might bring its total budget to around $400 million. As per the latest forecasts, it is projected to generate just $53 million in domestic box office sales upon release. Given the disappointing performance of Disney’s previous production, ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ which suffered from costly reshoots and has already flopped at the box office, Disney seems to be facing another setback in 2025.

As a film enthusiast, I firmly believe that Disney has earned this success. They had a hunch she would cause a stir when they chose her for the role, and now they’re reaping the benefits of their intuition.
