Netflix Announces It Will Spend $18 Billion USD on Content This Year

This year, Netflix is significantly boosting its content offerings, as per their Chief Financial Officer, Spencer Neumann. By the year 2025, Netflix plans to invest approximately $18 billion USD in cash towards creating more content.

Stepping into uncharted territories, I found myself addressing the crowd at the 2025 Morgan Stanley Tech, Media & Telecom Conference, expressing my belief that Netflix isn’t even close to hitting its peak. As a global entertainment powerhouse, I firmly believe we’re merely scratching the surface of what we can achieve. We’ve allocated an impressive $18 billion USD for content creation this year, marking an 11% increase from our spending last year. This anticipated revenue has a certain predictability to it, as we view it as a strategic move towards meeting our margin targets. In other words, we’re just getting started!

By the close of 2024, Netflix boasted a global membership base of over 301.6 million paid subscribers, marking a significant surge in growth from 2023. With approximately 700 million viewers worldwide enjoying Netflix content, this streaming titan is present in roughly 40% of connected TV households globally and has claimed around 6% of its potential market. In the U.S. and other nations, Netflix accounts for less than 10% of overall television viewing. Neumann expressed that there’s ample room to expand, stating, “We’re always on the lookout for the best opportunities to grow and invest…Our aim is to stay in growth mode instead of maintenance mode as long as we can.” The company’s objectives continue to prioritize delivering “more entertainment value per dollar” while simultaneously enhancing the overall user experience, acknowledging that competition is intensifying. In collaboration with Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria, the firm agrees it must first focus on creating significant, locally-relevant stories using “authentic storytelling.” Once these narratives prove impactful, they can potentially gain traction beyond their origins.

By 2025, Netflix has increased its projected revenue range to be between $43.5 – $44.5 billion USD, which is a half-billion dollars higher than the previous estimate. In January of 2025, Netflix also announced price increases for all plans, affecting both the U.S. and other markets worldwide.
