Fans have longed for years to witness a match between WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin and CM Punk. Known as one of WWE’s all-time greats, Austin was instrumental in leading the company during the Monday Night Wars against WCW and significantly contributed to WWE’s triumph in the ratings battle.
For quite a few years, Austin was a prominent figure in the WWE. In the year 2003, he had his last wrestling bout against The Rock at WrestleMania 19 and declared his retirement. Over the ensuing years, he sporadically made appearances for the WWE until 2022, when he came back for one more match.
At WrestleMania 38, Austin took center stage during The Kevin Owens Show. When Owens proposed a fight, Austin agreed immediately. He made his return to a WWE ring after 19 years and emerged victorious over Owens with a Stunner.
In 2023, CM Punk made his comeback to WWE, rekindling fan anticipation for a confrontation between him and Austin. Their on-screen exchanges back in 2011 and 2012 fueled excitement about the possibility of a fight, and the desire for it has only intensified since then.
As a gamer, I’ve got a buddy named Austin and another mate we both know quite well, Punk. Recently, when Punk came back, Austin shot him a hearty congrats text, something Punk mentioned a few months back. Now, since Austin hails from Las Vegas and WrestleMania 41 is happening there in April, I’ve been wondering if he might step into the ring with Punk.
Stone Cold reveals his thoughts on facing CM Punk
On The Adrian Hernandez Show, I opened up about my friendship with CM Punk. I reminisced, “Man, Punk and I go way back; there’s an old picture of us from what feels like my peak years. He was quite a bit younger than me at the time, and in that photo, he was just a young whippersnapper. I believe he used to be a Stone Cold fan when he was growing up, and as for me, I’ve always been a CM Punk supporter. I admire his work and those electrifying promos of his; he can really set someone off!
He added, “We don’t chat extensively, but we occasionally exchange texts. We might be close friends who barely communicate much, yet hold deep respect for one another.” [Credit: Wrestletalk]
Austin openly acknowledged that when discussing hypothetical dream matches, Punk would undoubtedly be included in his top choices. He said, “Gosh, there are so many potential fantastic matches I’d have to pause and ponder for a while. But would he make the cut? Absolutely.
In Las Vegas at the moment, but I haven’t had any discussions with WWE or similar organizations regarding WrestleMania 41 or my current relationship with CM Punk. (Interview about Stone Cold Steve Austin and CM Punk at WrestleMania 41 is available now.)

Stone Cold Steve Austin has affirmed his presence in Las Vegas for WrestleMania 31 in April, yet he hasn’t talked about a possible WWE appearance with them. Since he mentioned CM Punk as an ideal adversary, it’s still uncertain if this match might materialize at WrestleMania 31. We’ll have to wait and see.
