It seems that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 16 has dropped Denuvo’s Digital Rights Management (DRM) anti-piracy measures following an update. Originally released with Denuvo, it appears that the notorious software was removed from the game in a recent update.
It seems that the latest update for Final Fantasy 16 on March 4, 2025, as recorded by SteamDB, indicates the deletion of Denuvo’s anti-tamper software in the game. Although this may raise questions about the potential piracy issues, it also suggests that the game performance might improve significantly since Denuvo is often criticized for negatively impacting game performance.
As a devoted fan, I find it intriguing to mention that although Denuvo Anti-tamper seems absent from Final Fantasy 16, it doesn’t necessarily mean Square Enix is adopting this strategy universally. In fact, Final Fantasy 15, which debuted in 2018, continues to carry the Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, and based on current observations, there’s no sign of it being phased out anytime soon.
It remains a puzzle as to why Square Enix decided to remove Denuvo from Final Fantasy 16, but not other games, however, fans of the title can look forward to the benefits this change may bring. Keep an eye on our Square Enix section for updates and additional information.
