Christopher Nolan is reportedly Amazon’s top choice to helm the James Bond franchise.
Back in February 2025, I was thrilled to learn that Amazon MGM Studios took over the creative reins for the iconic James Bond series. After the long-standing producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, decided it was time to step back from the blockbuster spy franchise, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and excitement about the future of 007!
Despite Amazon MGM Studios not officially declaring anything about James Bond’s future, there’s a lot of buzz going around speculating possible actors for the leading character.
As of now, it’s still uncertain, but a recent article from TheWrap suggests that Christopher Nolan is the favorite candidate and the ideal director to revitalize the Bond series, as reported by “several industry sources” who spoke with the publication.
Will Christopher Nolan direct a James Bond movie?
In a recent development, it’s been shared that following his work on the 2020 film Tenet, Nolan expressed an interest in directing a James Bond movie. However, according to Variety, Barbara Broccoli stated unequivocally that no director would be granted final cut while she was overseeing Bond. This condition led Nolan to decline the project, opting instead to work on Oppenheimer.
It’s yet undecided if Nolan is keen on collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios. At the moment, he’s busy shooting The Odyssey for Universal Pictures, set to hit theaters in 2026. As TheWrap suggests, since his schedule might not coincide with Amazon’s imminent projects, but if they wait for him to finish and release The Odyssey, it could turn out to be incredibly profitable.
A producer of a franchise movie, speaking anonymously, advised that if Amazon aims to uphold its legacy, it should go all out in trying to secure Chris Nolan’s involvement and be patient, waiting for him whenever necessary.
On July 17, 2026, Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey premieres in U.S. cinemas. This epic film boasts an impressive cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Cosmo Jarvis, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, and several other talented actors.
